I am passing this along to some folks who would benefit from this -thanks
This is great I am happy to have this topic out there as I agree its not just about attention!
Thank you for providing such an informative presentation! Not only was the information provided clear, concise and easy to understand, your examples of some of the everyday challenges individuals with ADHD face and why things that my seem simple or easy to others are not so easy for those with ADHD was very beneficial. Kudos to you for providing the How, What, Where, When & Why ADHD is NOT a Deficit of Attention!
Booya! Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Jeff I wish I could just give you one big hug… just your short talk today gives me hope that my son can get better. It’s been 2 years just dealing with his depression, anxiety, insomnia , eating disorder and trying to take his life. I think we are finally able to focus on some strategies for learning. He’s
definitely a dopamine addict and I’m just so grateful for professionals like yourself who are reaching out to the ADHD community.
Laura,
In the context of a dopamine junkie/self regulation issue it simplifies everything down. It is distracted or impulsive… it is a self regulation issue. Anger, passion, hyperfocus… it is all a self regulation issue.
A self regulation lens enables you to see what you couldn’t see in the deficit of attention model… things a person always pays attention to. That opens to door to using what a person can pay attention to as a means to pay attention to what they struggle to attend to.
Thanks for your comments!
Wow! This really makes sense! Thanks Jeff!
Thrilled you found value!
