About Me
Professional Biography
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker located in San Diego CA. and I take insurance if you are in CA! Currently, Medicare, TriCare, Anthem Blue Cross, Aetna, Cigna, and UHC. I no longer take Blue Shield, but will consider OON agreements. All that being said, I will not be accepting new clients until working until early October of 2023.
I have experience with working with ADHD and adults, and also am a member of the American Professional Society and Related Disorders, (APSARD), CHADD, and ADDA. My interest encompasses ADHD across the lifespan into older age, the impact of unaddressed ADHD, along with the disappointment of not having a diagnosis earlier in life. I also enjoy working with couples and am trained in Gottman and familiar with Imago, (yes, I do believe that the opposite flavors are attracted to each other), working to assist couples with difficulties of communication, along with how to communicate more effectively when one or both persons may have undiagnosed ADHD.
I use Multiple modalities beginning with strengths-based CBT Conceptualization, using acceptance, and commitment therapy, DBT in order to help clients build skills toward improved self-regulation and distress tolerance. I also am EMDR trained for those who have a history of PTSD and trauma, which frequently go hand in hand with ADHD. Lastly, I focus on the co-occurring issues of ADHD, such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, substance use disorders, and other addictions, along with the overlap of Bipolar disorder. I am a nerd for literature reviews and love to seek out information and have a background in Biology from UCSD, besides my MSW from San Diego State University. (Yes, I had a late-life diagnosis and have struggled with going back to school for years!)
I use screening assessments and SUD scores to monitor changes, paying attention to discussions with regard to strengths, as well as potential problem areas that are not openly discussed in typical therapy. Working together, I strive to empower clients to work toward finding their, "gifts," along with improving one"s accountability toward oneself, sometimes towards one"s partners and bosses. I seek to provide a safe, emotionally supportive environment, in order to help individuals understand and come to terms with what a diagnosis of ADHD really means for each individual. Working to help individuals to maximize one"s potential by utilizing knowledge, hope, and creativity.
Ok, one last item, that is I am direct. If that is a problem, or if a client becomes upset, I am also open to feedback and willing to challenge my own views, however, having ADHD myself, sometimes the interplay between coming across too indirectly, and directly, is a fine line, so humor is absolutely essential!
