This session will explore how stress and cognitive load interact with executive functioning, how this shows up in daily life and relationships, and, importantly, evidence-informed ways to reduce cognitive load so memory has a better chance to function. The focus would be on practical, sustainable support rather than trying to “optimize” memory under conditions of overload.
Learning Objectives:
- Explain how increased cognitive load interferes with encoding, retention, and retrieval of intended actions
- Recognize how feeling “overloaded” affects memory, follow-through, and decision-making in ADHD
- Identify points in daily routines where systems can replace unreliable internal memory demands
