The adult ADHD brain typically detects and takes in negative information faster than positive information. Research also suggests that the ADHD brain is drawn to bad news. It becomes like a magnet for negative experiences and must learn to deflect the negative messages or can manifest in ruminative (immobilizing negative hyperfocus) thinking.
The ADHD coaching process focuses on preventing rumination through illumination by mirroring back the hidden light of what’s best in their clients; their successes, strengths and natural sources of motivation. ADHD coaches not only focus on performance-oriented strengths. They also notice and validate the client’s character strengths, which are the personality ingredients that comprise who they genuinely are.
David Giwerc , a Master Certified ADHD Coach, MCAC, will introduce you to the VIA character strengths inventory. He will share how he applies character strengths to the ADHD coaching process, and how it can positively impact an individual’s executive functions and motivation to pursue purposeful possibilities.
