Dr. Brown will briefly review his model of ADHD as impaired executive function and then will describe how some kids and adults with ADHD also have chronic problems with “social cluelessness”–chronic difficulties in understanding emotions in others and in themselves. He will discuss case examples of kids and adults who have both ADHD and Asperger Syndrome

Who: Thomas E. Brown, Ph.D.
Biography
Thomas E. Brown earned his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Yale University and then served on the clinical faculty of the Department of Psychiatry at Yale School of Medicine for 20 years while operating a clinic for ADHD and related disorders. In 2017 he relocated to California where he opened his Brown Clinic for Attention and Related Disorders in Manhattan Beach. There he sees children, teens and adults. Dr. Brown is also Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and Neuroscience at the University of California Riverside School of Medicine. He has published 30 articles in professional journals as well as 7 books. His most recent books are Smart but Stuck: Emotions in Teens and Adults with ADHD; Outside the Box: Rethinking ADD/ADHD in Children and Adults; and ADHD and Asperger Syndrome in Smart Kids and Adults with ADHD.
