Is the way adults with ADHD approach friendship part what makes friendship hard for us? After a lifetime of feeling we are different and struggling with friendship, adults with ADHD are often tired of the pursuit of friends while simultaneously we want friends more than anything. Do you think of everyone you meet, click with, and agree to meet for coffee as a friend? Do many of the ways you build friendships like making chit chat and waiting to share your life story bore you? How do you talk yourself into participation when you have been let down before, have rejection sensitivity and when staying home feels safer.
The path to friendship takes, time, participation, practice, and a mindset to understand that we build trust, connection, and friendship over time. Caroline Maguire M.Ed. will lead participants through how to shift your friendship mindset and approach in ways that works with your ADHD neurology rather than against it. Having shared interests and continual participation may be the answer to help us reach the connection we desire.
Learning Objectives:
- Learn to shift your mindset to embrace participation and time as necessary to build friendships
- Understand how to build trust and deep connection in a way that works for the ADHD brain
- Discover how a shift in mindset can address common ADHD friendship hurdles such as oversharing, avoidance, rushing into friendships and overexplaining your friendship missteps
