About Me
Professional Biography
Solution-oriented, compassion-focused ADHD, Couples & Family therapist.
As a native New Yorker, I understand how overwhelming the pressure to succeed can be. I work with adults, adolescents, couples and families who want to see real changes. And, as a late-diagnosed ADHD woman, I understand the challenges and mixed feelings that accompany your or your partner/child/spouse's symptoms.
I am a Manhattan-based Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with a specialization treating ADHD, anxiety, addiction and relationships. Whether you are struggling with executive functioning and related ADHD symptoms, anxiety, academics or career transitions, emotion dysregulation, substance misuse, relationship challenges, or family dynamics, I can help you navigate your way.
I take a kind, collaborative, supportive yet direct approach. My goal is to empower you with the tools and confidence to understand your past without judgment, take ownership of your present and positive steps towards your ideal future. I combine evidence-based practices, psychoeducation and candid conversations. Whatever your current struggle is, I focus on “progress, not perfection.” I'll hold you accountable, always treating you with respect, sensitivity, honesty and compassion.
I will work tirelessly to help you move forward. If you meet me half way, you'll find a patient partner and coach to push you, sit with you, and encourage you to breathe. We will explore the factors and patterns – past and present – that have enabled and limited you from reaching your full potential. I'll equip you with tools and skills to draw on the strengths you already have to build a better functioning, stronger self. Let’s get straight to the hard work your future self will thank you for.
About Melissa
She/Her/Hers
After graduating with a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania, I pursued a career in corporate communications where I worked with C-suite executives in the financial, legal services, B2B and nonprofit sectors. After a number of years I realized I wanted to make a real difference and help others improve their lives, so pursued my M.S.W. at Columbia University's School of Social Work.
Since obtaining my M.S.W., and prior to opening Attuned Attention Psychotherapy, my experience included working at a community-based mental health clinic serving low-income New Yorkers, as a geriatric care manager for high net-worth elderly individuals and their caregivers, counseling survivors of sexual assault and families interfacing with the foster care system, and in the criminal justice system both on a forensic Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team and in Manhattan Criminal Court advocating for defendants eligible for diversion programs instead of jail or prison time.
