More than 100 studies have shown that 80% of people who have gone through the difficulty and cost of an evaluation and who have tried at least one ADHD medication are not in treatment of any kind 9 months later. This is the worst “adherence rate” of any diagnosis in all of medicine. If so many people drop out of treatment it is almost pointless to even start the whole process unless we can do something with the person to assure that they can be success in the long run. The approaches in this presentation work and have been shown to produce 90% one-year continuation in treatment which is better than most medical illnesses. These techniques are easily added to the standard approaches to treatment and make a huge difference between success and yet another failure.
Learning Objectives:
- The participant will learn what is going on but unrecognized that dooms most ADHD treatments to failure
- The participant will be able to see the many unacknowledged obstacles to treatment and manage all of them in the first 2 or 3 sessions
- The participant will understand the importance of assertive proactive interventions that solve the problems before they sabotage the treatment

Thank you Dr. Dodson. I really appreciated that you did not talk down to us. But I must say that I think there are few doctors that have any idea about how to treat ADHD, therefore, they don’t know how to talk to their patients about what is known about ADHD. It’s a sad situation.
